Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and dynamic individual with strong communications skills. Background or experience in the non-profit sector will be an asset. The food bank operations coordinator works to ensure effective routine operations of all Food Bank programs. They coordinate volunteer teams responsible for daily operational tasks, as well as provide front line service to community members seeking food security supports. The food bank operations coordinator acts as the central point of contact for food deliveries and community members making food donations. They support fundraising activities and donor relations. They take a leadership role in safe food handling procedures, inventory management, program usage, food ordering and weekly program set-up. The food bank operations coordinator will work under the leadership of the foodbank director to facilitate transition and growth of this charitable ministry at St. Andrews church Whitby.

Responsibilities.

  • Ensures food safety and inventory rotation of all donated perishable and non-perishable foods in accordance with Canada Foodbank standards and Durham Regional Health department regulations.
  • Coordinates volunteer schedules and shifts. Uses online tools to facilitate communication, training and messaging. Takes a leadership role with weekly program volunteers who pick-up, deliver, process and package food donations for distributions to community clients. Takes a leadership role in orientation and placement for new volunteers.
  • Takes a leadership role in maintaining foodbank client data, using Link2Feed and google sheets for weekly data management and to fulfill all regional and provincial reporting obligations.
  • Responsible for keeping social media platforms up-to-date with information for both food bank donors and clients. Creates website updates and social media posts.
  • Coordinates weekly food bank delivery program
  • Organizes and schedules food pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Takes a leadership role with volunteers coordinating physical program set-up for each Friday.
  • Works with, supervises, guides and mentors all ‘frontline’ volunteers directly serving community clients. Models respect, empowerment, inclusivity, and compassion during all client interactions, in keeping with the core values of this ministry.

Key Competencies and Required Skills

  • Passionate about serving those most vulnerable within our community. With a strong focus on inclusion, advocacy and support for those affect by food insecurity and poverty. Experience working in the non-profit or charitable sector will be helpful.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate with food bank users, donors, staff, volunteers, and other community stakeholders.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Up-to-date safe food handling certification is an asset, but training can be obtained during course of employment.
  • Computer skills are required for using Google suite, Microsoft Excel, and email. Knowledgeable and capable with website design/updates, as well as social media platforms will be an important asset.
  • Ability to use and/or willingness to learn Bloomerang online applications to be used for volunteer coordination, communication and training.
  • Ability to use and/or willingness to learn Bloomerang online applications and tools to be used for donor management.
  • Knowledge and experience with Link2Feed online data management tools would be an asset, but is not required.
  • Valid G-class drivers’ license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check for working within the vulnerable sector. Includes completion of Leading With Care contracts/covenants as directed by the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • Organized and detail oriented with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
