The Opportunity

As an Operations Summer Student, you will be a key contributor on one of three various Operations teams including Credit, Customer Service, and Funding & Dealer Services. Summer Students will dive into the world of banking and finance to develop practical skills in areas such as financial analysis, customer service, credit adjudication, collections and administration. Each Operations team offers a unique opportunity for students to explore different business lines and industries. Below, you will find descriptions of the summer employment opportunities available with each of our Operations teams.

Credit

The Credit department is dedicated to providing quick, reliable, and thoughtful adjudication of auto loans across Canada. This role will exercise sound judgment in applying credit policies and guidelines to ensure timely credit decisions that balance the bank’s risk appetite and growth. They will build strong relationships with dealership financial services managers, promoting sound business partnerships and reinforcing the bank’s commitment to reliable, high-quality service in the auto loan industry.

Customer Service

The Customer Service team at General Bank of Canada provides personalized, efficient, and expert support for auto loan inquiries through phone and email. In this role, they will be responsible for providing personalized and efficient support for auto loan inquiries through phone and email. This role requires a collaborative and solutions-focused approaches to help ensure seamless customer interactions and strengthen relationships, to reinforce the bank’s commitment to exceptional service.

Funding & Dealer Services

The Funding and Dealer Services team plays a key role in processing and reviewing retail auto loan documentation, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and funding loans with precision and efficiency. This role includes maintaining loan files, identifying inconsistencies in applications, and supporting dealership inquiries. You will also have the chance to support managing lien registrations, conducting searches, performing administrative tasks, and recommending process improvements to enhance efficiency and support the Bank’s culture of continuous improvement.

  • Students who are actively enrolled at a post-secondary institution, with a preference with those majoring in business, finance, accounting, business strategy, communications, or other relevant faculties.
  • Students with organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with acute attention to detail to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Students who are customer-focused, empathetic, and dedicated to delivering exceptional service while embodying the values of General Bank.
  • Students who are proficient in Microsoft365 (Outlook, Word, Excel) and adept at utilizing technology.
  • Students who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility, multitasking abilities, and adeptness in handling multiple systems concurrently
  • Students who are innovative, creative thinkers and are committed to contributing their ideas to help improve the Bank.
  • Students who are eager to work in a professional, banking setting and personally contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Students with previous customer service or financial services experience is considered an asset.
