- Define and execute an editorial vision across CBC digital, radio, and television that balances immediate breaking news with enterprise storytelling.
- Serve as the guardian of CBC’s journalistic integrity, ensuring all content is fair, balanced, and accurate.
- Move the newsroom forward in an ever-changing landscape, encouraging calculated risks, new formats, and digital-first thinking.
- Ensure our coverage reflects the true diversity of Alberta, building trust with new audiences through inclusive storytelling.
- Oversees the station’s community outreach strategy

- You possess exceptional editorial judgment and can make difficult decisions rapidly during high-pressure news events.
- You communicate with clarity and confidence, building strong bridges across the organization
- Minimum of 10 years’ related leadership experience, including experience leading a newsroom
- A track record of guiding complex journalistic decision making
- Experience managing staff and resources within budgetary constraints
- Experience leading the application of journalistic standards and practices in a daily newsroom setting
- An ongoing interest in and understanding of media trends as they apply to a multiplatform newsroom
- Experience in setting clear objectives and goals, and then to deliver on them
- Proven ability to make decisions rapidly and frequently within tight deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to be clear, concise, and precise on journalistic and programming matters
- Experience leading a news team during major breaking news events
- Knowledge of the law as it relates to broadcasting and journalism
- Experience hiring and supporting new staff in a journalistic setting, including defining expectations and following up where appropriate
- Experience working with video and/or audio storytelling is essential
- Provides strategically driven editorial leadership daily and on all station projects
- Responsible for application of the CBC’s journalistic standards and practices
- Responds to complaints to the Ombudsman
- Works collaboratively with other CBC leaders to ensure strong national coverage of stories in the Edmonton and Northern Alberta
- Works closely with legal team when required
- Develops and executes strategy against goals
- Builds and maintains strong relationships between the Edmonton local team and colleagues across the country
- Works with MEs and other colleagues across the country to achieve strategic goals
- Builds relationships with community leaders and groups in the community
- Works with finance staff to ensure costs are tracked and budgets are followed
- Hires and ensures the training and development of all staff
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
