Beauty Shop Volunteer Job Description
Purpose:
- To help residents get to and from their beauty shop appointments and to assist the hairdresser
Responsibilities:
- Escort residents to and from the beauty shop, with guidance from the hairdresser
- Visit and chat with residents while they’re getting their hair done
- Assist the hairdresser by maintaining cleanliness standards or assisting with the haircut
Qualifications:
- ESL Level 6 is required if English is not your first language (based on emergency procedures, client welfare, and communication issues i.e. visual impairment or hearing impairment)
- Strong communication skills
- Open to working with all cultures
- Non-judgmental and sensitive to issues of diversity and aging seniors
- Ability to work independently
- Experience working with seniors and/or in a beauty shop is an asset
Orientation/Training:
- During the Volunteer Orientation, things like policies, procedures and a tour will be covered to help introduce you to Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre’s Volunteer Program. Please ask the Volunteer Coordinator, Program Assistants, or Program Manager any questions or concerns that you have
Supervision:
- Please take directions and follow instructions from the Hairdresser, Volunteer Coordinator, Program Assistants, and Program Manager. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask the staff mentioned above. Our volunteers are important to us, and we want to ensure you are enjoying volunteering at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre
Evaluation:
- Volunteers will be asked to evaluate their volunteer experience once a year. The Volunteer Coordinator will evaluate the volunteer on an informal basis. (Giving feedback and updates as needed.)
Screening:
- Successful candidates will be interviewed and asked for at least two references
- A Vulnerable Persons Police Check must be provided if 18 or older
